One day last week I was on Facebook, and I came across a picture of hot chocolate. The only reason it caught my eye is that the chocolate was very thick, and I have never seen hot chocolate so thick. My eyes widened and I almost started to drool when I had seen that pic, so I just knew I had to find the recipe. I told my best friend Cassandra about this recipe, and she is desperate to try it. So, I told her that I will make it for her during Superbowl weekend. There is a carnival in Venice, Italy, and it is one of the top drinks served there. This recipe is great when it is cold outside, and you are sitting by a warm fire watching movies.
Servings: 4
- 1 cup whole milk or 2% (which ever you desire), separated in 3/4 cup and 1/4 cup
- 1 cup heavy cream
- 1 1/2 teaspoons cornstarch
- 4 tablespoons granulated sugar
- 4 1/2 ounces high quality dark chocolate 70%, finely chopped
- About a cup of whipped cream, optional
- 1 1/12 Bailey’s Irish Cream or Kahlua, optional (if you like a little liqueur flavor)
Combine
the 3/4 cup milk, cream and sugar in a saucepan and heat until it starts to
bubble around the edges. While the milk mixture is heating, whisk together the
1/4 cup of milk and the cornstarch until it is smooth. Once the milk mixture starts
bubbling around the edges, add the milk and cornstarch mixture to it and whisk
until it's heated through. Add the chocolate and whisk together until it's
smooth, hot and thick. Pour into mugs and serve with whipped
cream. ENJOY!
